UAE BUSINESSES ENTER A BRAND NEW TAX LANDSCAPE: 2024 represents more than just the start of another year – for UAE businesses, it’s about entering a new tax landscape altogether. Registrations must still be made, irrespective of whether it is a blue-chip corporation booking profits in the hundreds of millions of dirhams or racking up losses. Profit or less, just make it to the tax registry. There cannot be any laxness on that score, and it would apply even to the latest business that’s launching in the UAE. If anything, 2024 will be for businesses about pursuing more growth – as it will be about tax audits. And being transparent in the whole process. WHY DUBAI’S BIODIVERSITY PROGRAMMES ARE PRAISEWORTHY: Sustained efforts of the authorities in preserving and promoting protected areas in Dubai needs to be specially acknowledged. Marine and coastal habitats like the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary and Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary were designated as protected areas since 1998, but it is to the credit of the entities concerned that their natural ecosystems and rich heritage continue to be preserved and nurtured. Not just that, well-thought out biodiversity and sustainability programmes have increased Dubai’s wildlife reserves from just two to eight areas in just a few years. (By Sharmila Dhal, UAE Editor).
