Dubai: Now that we’ve covered bus travel in Dubai  and Abu Dhabi , it’s time to explore the Northern emirates.

Public bus services exist in Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah at the moment. As for Umm Al Quwain, you can get there via intercity lines from other emirates.

Here’s a compilation of the Northern emirates where bus services are available:

Sharjah

The public bus system in Sharjah is called MOWASALAT . To use public buses you would need to purchase a Sayer card , which is a smart card that enables passengers to electronically pay their fare on any Sharjah Public Transport bus.

Where to buy a Sayer card?

Sayer cards can be purchased on-board through your Sharjah Public Transport bus driver. They can be recharged in the same way.

What if I don’t have a Sayer card?

If you don’t have a Sayer card, you will be required to purchase a cash ticket of Dh8 on an intracity bus trip.

There are two kinds of Sayer cards, both costing Dh5 to purchase:

1. Sayer Discount Card

• 25 per cent discount on Cash Ticket, so you will be charged Dh6 for intracity bus trips instead

• Valid for five years

• This card can be recharged for Dh45 or Dh90

2. Sayer Subscription Card

• Unlimited travel

• Valid for five years

• This card must be recharged every month for Dh225
