Dubai: Have you received a violation for jumping a red light? Or perhaps you have accumulated several black points over the year, through other traffic mistakes.

The UAE’s Federal Traffic Law stipulates various penalties, which include monetary fines, traffic black points as well as impounding of vehicles or suspending a driver’s licence, depending on the severity of a traffic violation. However, it is also possible to take remedial action, especially by attending training courses organised by police authorities in each Emirate.

On January 6, 2022, Abu Dhabi Police announced that as many as 1,219 drivers in Abu Dhabi have reduced their black points after taking awareness classes in 2021.

In a post on its social media channels, Abu Dhabi Police stated that the drivers benefited from the traffic points reduction programme for motorists, which was introduced a few years ago, to raise traffic awareness and improve driving culture and etiquette.

Abu Dhabi’s Traffic or Black Points Reduction Programme

As per the post by Abu Dhabi Police, a driver has the right to enter the programme once a year, during which eight points are reduced for those whose accumulated number of traffic points does not exceed 23 traffic points.

Under the second programme, drivers who have more than 24 black points and their driving licences have been withdrawn can benefit from the classes. Motorists who have a car confiscation order can enrol in the third programme.

Where can I attend the classes?

In order to enroll for the classes, you can call the Abu Dhabi Police contact centre number – 800 3333 – or visit the traffic department in Musaffah, Abu Dhabi.

The classes are organised in Arabic and English.
